Large 1kg Antique 19th Century Indian Bronze Royal Ceremonial Mace Soonta, c1860

Rare mid 19th century Indian bronze ceremonial mace or Soonta, c1860. This is a beautiful example with a stylised rams head top, twisted conical shaft and open hand at the base.

Most likely from central India and the area known as the Deccan plateau, the Soonta would have been carried by an attendant as part of the regalia of an Indian Maharaja. The'Soonta berdar' was a high ranking member of the court and would have walked close to the Maharaja and held the Soonta aloft. About me: I have been a passionate collector of antiques and collectables for over 30 years. My tastes are diverse and range from fine antique furniture, African, Indian and Asian ethnographic antiques and tribal art, to vintage slot machines - the more unusual and curious the better! I have travelled extensively throughout Africa, Asia, India, North America and much of my collection has been sourced in the Country of origin. After many years of collecting I decided to start to sell and have established'Curious Antiques' which specialises in a range of fine and more unusual antiques. These include fine furniture, religious items, militaria, amusement machines and one of the Countries best collections of African, Chinese, Eastern and Indian tribal and ethnographic antiques. I value your custom and will do all I can to keep you happy and satisfied.
