Antique Large Oak Coffer 18th Century (George II)
A really lovely large example of a quality oak coffer. Being of Oak construction throughout. Having two solid thick oak planks on top for a lid with heavy robust Georgian hinges which are in good condition. Four large panels showing off very distinctive beautiful and prominent medullary rays are across the front, each sitting between vertical oak panels The four panels have a moulding surround around each one adding a touch of style. There is a lock but sadly the key is missing. Inside the coffer is a candle box on the left hand side and a very large interior. This coffer is larger than most and could have come from a vestry because of its size. Supported with Stile legs the whole piece has been very well constructed from fine quality oak. The rear stile legs have had small bun feet fitted on them in the past, probably due to wear and tear and this addition has raised and levelled the piece to match the front height.. The colour is mellow and has a deep richness to it.
This would make an ideal window seat or hallway/kitchen, bedroom or living room chest because of its sheer size. The coffer is in very good condition for its age.
