Antique, 19th century, English School, large watercolour painting, rosewood frame
A large, 19th century English School watercolour painting of a lady and a chair in a rosewood frame. The lady is wearing a bluey-grey dress: this is unclear from the photographs. There is some foxing to the paper - fortunately just to the background, rather on the painting itself.

The front turned legs, splayed rear legs, curved rear uprights and mid-back support of the chair is typical of an early 19th century (Regency) dining chair. This lady represents a lady in costume typical of the 1820's-1830's.

The aperture is 26cms by 23cms. The frame is 41cms by 38cms and is original to the painting. The frame is constructed from rosewood and contains a gilt slip. It is 4cms deep so is substantial. The painting has recently been removed from the frame so that the glass could be cleaned. This accounts for the replacement glazier points at the rear of the frame seen in photograph 11. The brass easel shown in the photographs is not included in the sale. Please see my other items which are predominantly 18th and 19th century in date.
